Abstract
In the early 1550's Titian painted his mistress and their daughter which was left unfinished at the time of his death. For some reason the composition was overpainted, perhaps by his jealous son Pomponio, as a Tobias and Angel. After passing through many distinguished collections the original portrait was revealed after a painstaking restoration by Alec Cobbe
